Rest Area, 2008

Objects: Rest area signs, which figure a table and a tree that sways, are placed at and around the harbor of Odense. The newly renovated harbor is situated in the outskirts of the downtown Odense. One of the mayor goals of the city is to combine the harbor with the downtown area. Normally, rest area signs are placed at busy highways and freeways. Here the signs are now being placed in the middle of the city – however, one of the most busy areas of the city because of the ring road. Questions like these may rise: Do the passers-by see the harbor as part of the city and as a public picnic area? And how does the new design and architecture at the harbor combine with an often mucky and a foul-smelling rest area?
